Hundreds queue up as liquor stores open with lockdown relaxations across southern India's Bangalore
As liquor stores opened across several parts of southern India's Bangalore city- with the easing of lockdown restrictions- booze lovers ushered in the resumption of liquor sales in a spirited fashion across the Karnataka state capital.
The incident took place at Sarjapur road on May 4.
Hundreds queued up from dawn as the liquor stores opened after over a month of lockdown, which is still in place.
Visuals showed people lining up outside a liquor store.
Many hoped to buy as much as they are allowed to, in anticipation of stores possibly closing again.
However, certain restrictions have been placed on how many bottles each person can buy.
According to sources, the stores are allowed to sell three bottles of spirits and six bottles of 650 ml beer or 12 bottles of 330 ml beer per person.
According to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the city's administrative body, liquor sales will be resumed across the city wherever the containment restrictions are not applicable.
There are 26 containment areas spread across 24 BBMP wards; liquor shops outside these areas will be allowed to open.
The areas are being patrolled by police personnel and the administration officials to ensure that overcrowding is not taking place.
Customers were asked to maintain physical distances while waiting in line.
The liquor stores have been closed since March 22, following the Janata Curfew and later the nationwide lockdown on March 23.
