As the government permitted reopening of standalone liquor shops after almost 40 days of the nationwide lockdown, a tippler climbed a water tank in northern India's Uttar Pradesh.

The incident took place in Aligarh district on May 6.

Visuals show the man atop a water tank and threatening to jump off.

Police personnel and his relatives rushed to the spot to convince him to climb down.

The former mayor also arrived at the spot to talk to the man and persuade him to come down.

Using loudspeakers, the police officials attempted to persuade him by saying that he had such a loving and caring wife and she would be devastated if he took his life.

Finally, after hours of concentrated efforts by the police team, the man climbed down.

According to reports, he was let go without any police complaint.
