Driver injured after tropical storm pulls electricity lines onto cars in Thailand
This was the aftermath of a tropical storm that battered northern Thailand on Sunday (May 10).
Dozens of utility poles were blow down onto a busy road, with some of the structures and the black power lines landing on top of cars in Chiang Rai province.
Five vehicles were damaged. One driver suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital by paramedics who arrived on the scene.
The Provincial Electricity Authority said it had urgently sent staff to fix the utility poles to restore power.
They said in a statement: "We needed to take actions quickly and put the fallen poles back up to return electricity to residents.''
Tropical storms have been sweeping Thailand for the last few weeks as the country enters its scorching summer season with temperatures reaching 42C.
The strong winds and heavy rain, which are forecast to continue throughout May, causes havoc with the country's ageing infrastructure.
