Social distancing goes for a toss as sloth bear strays into neighbourhood in Southern India; captured after four hours

A group of forest officials and cops captured a sloth bear after a marathon operation in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The bear had strayed into the neighbourhood and created a panic among locals.

The incident took place in Srivilliputhur of Virudhunagar district on May 12.

The visuals show the bear in the farmland and moving into the village, as the forest officials use firecrackers to scare away the animal.

And the cops advising people to stay indoors, as most of them gathered to see the bear.

Later, the bear was captured using a net and taken away the forest officials.

According to the reports, the bear entered the village during the night time and was spotted by an old man who informed the forest officials.

A group of more than 20 forest officials and 10 cops were involved in the operation to capture the bear after four hours of effort and many missed attempts.

The villagers are even seen not maintaining social distancing and breaking the lockdown norms to get a glimpse of the bear.
