A thirsty bear entered a village near Srivilliputhur in South India looking for water on May 12.

The sight of the animal roaming in the village triggered instant panic and a team of forest officials rushed to the village.

But rescue was difficult as the animal, scared by the commotion, ran helter skelter, before entering a drain to dodge the pursuing men.

Officials covered the mouth of the drain with a net and waited patiently. As the bear peeped put they caught it with a lasso and threw the net over it.

“There were several dramatic moments, we struggled to overpower and restrain the animal,” an official said.

They gave it water and released it later at a nearby forest range.
