Sharing booths called "community pantries" have been set up by good Samaritans in Thailand to help their neighbours who are affected by the pandemic.

Footage from Monday (May 11) shows people in need stop by community pantries in Chiang Mai, northearn Thailand for free supplies of food.

The community cupboards allow residents to take what they need while generous locals can also add something to replenish the supplies.

The idea has spread as more booths have emerged across the country, which today reached zero new cases for the first time since March.

Thailand has enforced strict measures to combat the pandemic including the closing down of some businesses, banning of passenger flights, curfews, travel bans and alcohol prohibition.

The restrictions have lead to a downturn in the economy, with many locals struggling to get by during the tough times.
