A contractor was killed after a fire extinguisher exploded on a construction site inside the Morgan General Mail Facility building in Chelsea, New York City on Wednesday (May 13).

The incident is being investigated.

May 13 2020 - MANHATTAN, New York:
Police were called to 341 9th Avenue this morning after a fire extinguisher exploded on a construction site and lodged a piece of shrapnel into a victim's neck. That victim was rushed to the hospital and reported DOA.
As police were setting up a route to the hospital, 2 officers were injured in a motor vehicle accident and transported to Bellevue with minor injuries. CIS was called to investigate.
The bomb squad and ESU were on the scene of the explosion and seen investigating, no further information available at this time
