Typhoon Ambo made landfall in the Philippines today (May 14) as it battered homes with heavy rain and winds of 150 km/h.

The storm with international name Vongfong made landfall over Eastern Samar at 12:15 p.m, brining gusts of up to 180 km/h.

Footage from a resident's home in the San Policarpo municipality shows them sheltering in their porch as the typhoon rips through the street.

Millions of locals are still reeling from the economic problems of the coronavirus pandemic. Many now face being evacuated into shelters amid fears the storm could inflict severe damage.
