Footage shows a Filipino father and son enjoying the cool rains brought by Typhoon Ambo today (May 14) a welcome respite from the summer heatwaves that swept the country a few days ago.

The video was taken by their neighbour Joy Vizcarra from Pasay City in the Metro Manila area.

Tyhoon Ambo, with the internaltional name Typhoon Vongfong, made landfall in the Eastern Samar province of the Philippines at 12:15pm local time.

It wreaked devastation on coastal villages with gusts of up to 180kmph which tore down trees and damaged buildings.

Typhoon Ambo is the first typhoon to hit the country this year in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Millions of locals are still reeling from the economic problems caused by the coronavirus . Many now face being evacuated into shelters amid fears the storm could inflict severe damage.

Eastern Samar and nearby provinces earlier suspended public and private work due to the typhoon that is expected to bring violent winds and heavy rains.
