An adorable Pomeranian dog has learned how to climb into the refrigerator to escape the summer heat in Thailand.

The pooch, named Pom Fifa, lives with his siblings 'Lucky and Thongek, in Ratchaburi province, where temperatures have reached 42C in recent days.

Dog owner Pornpimon Martkhaw, 27, has placed electric fans near her dogs because she's worried about them having health problems because of the heat as they have thick hair.

However, the male Pom Fifa does not want to share fans and chooses to stay inside the refrigerator where it is colder.

The kind owner said Fifa is a smart dog who runs inside the refrigerator every time she opens it. Footage from May 10 shows the dog climbing into the fridge to cool off.

Pornpimon said: "I've raised Fifa since I was in university, then I bought Freyja to be his friend. They mated and had cute little babies.

"Fifa learned how to go into the fridge when he was young. It all started when he followed me into the kitchen and realised that the fridge was cold. He ran into it and it became his routine."

Pornpimon added that in the early days of her dog's habit, she tried to stop him but she finally gave in to his puppy eyes and whimpering.

She said: "When he wants to enter the fridge, he will sit in front of it and bark to have my attention, then he will act cute as if he was is me to open it for him.

"I once tried to resist it but he will become angry and starte to be aggressive, so I have to let him in eventually."

The family's vet Rattawat Klongchan said dogs staying in the fridge is okay but it should not be too long.

He said: "If the dog stays in the fridge for more than an hour there's a chance that it might be suffocated.

"So I suggest not to let the dog stay in the fridge for over an hour unless the fridge is opened from time to time so there is enough air for the dog."
