Superstitious locals flock to see green snake cooling off in pond
Superstitious locals have been flocking to see a snake twisting around and splashing in water while it cools off in a pond.
The Red-tailed Green Rat Snake amazed residents when it appeared in the spring in Phetchabun, central Thailand last Tuesday (May 12).
Buddhist devotee Suwan Boonkong went with local monks to see the snake, which they believe is a sign of good luck.
Suwan filmed the video that shows the 3ft long green snake 'dancing' in the water, They believe it is manifestation or the spirit of Naga, a mythological serpent from Buddhist scriptures.
Suwan said: "This pond is a sacred place and I believe the snake appearing is not a coincidence. It must be the sign of a good luck that the great Naga wanted to give us."
The snake retreated to nearby rocks then appeared again a few days later, splashing in the water. Dozens more residents from nearby villages are now travelling to the area to leave offerings for the snake and say prayers to it.
