An Asian black bear has befriended a chubby frog that swims through his enclosure.

The two distinct animals were spotted living together in the same pool at the Huai Kha Khaeng wildlife sanctuary in Uthai Thani, Thailand.

The bear was today soaking in the water while the relaxed frog floated calmly past - managing to avoid being swallowed by the animal.

Sanctuary chief officer Angsana Mongsap said the bear is definitely a carnivore and it was strange that the frog has survived living there without being eaten.

She said: "I was amazed to see that the frog was not eaten or attacked by the bear since he is a carnivore and definitely eats meat.

"I assumed that they really are friends or it was just because the bear was still full from his meal."

Although bears don't actively hunt frogs, as carnivores they would normally devour them as a source of meat.
