In a heart-breaking video, locals can be seen giving leftover food to the wild elephants in Sri Lanka.

The visual came out of Dambulla town situated in the north of Matale District on May 10.

The video shows a garbage truck arriving at a clearing in the forest.

Following this, two men can be seen dumping the garbage and feeding it to at least three elephants emerging out of the forest.

A forest official tried to reason with the men for providing the elephants with the waste food bits.

According to sources, the men had agreed to comply with the same.

Particularly in the dry season (June-September), the elephants try to find food waste in garbage piles along the roads running between protected areas like Hurulu Wewa Forest Reserve – Kawudulla National Park, Kawudulla – Minneriya National Park.
