A farmer is covering her fruitless trees with worn out underwear to give it a sex change to help it bear fruits.

Urai Nilphu, 54, has been worried because the fruit trees around her house in Trang, southern Thailand, have not blossomed or produce fruit for more than two years.

The farmer recalled a traditional belief about the genders of trees, which suggests that a tree that does not produce fruits if it is a male tree.

Footage from last Saturday (May 16) shows the worried local putting her old bras on the tree to make it female.

She said that clothing the male trees with female underwear is believed to change the gender of the tree to female which is the gender that produces offspring.

She said: "The trees have always produced fruit for me for the last six years before it suddenly stopped without any sign of a problem.

"I have tried scientific ways like fertiliser, but it did not help so I thought of trying the traditional belief. It's not a bad idea since I have nothing to lose."
