Sunset is a prime time for #photographers, with just a small window of opportunity when the light is golden. Shortly afterwards, as the sun slips behind the horizon, the scene changes dramatically, looking flat and drab.
This Burchell's zebra Equus quagga burchellii strolled out of the setting sun at just the right moment to give his upright mane a golden tinge beside the #ChobeRiver, #Botswana, providing a meditative moment for the 66th #BrightenYourDay video to lift spirits during the #Covid19 #lockdown.
Recent research using GPS collars on eight female #zebras revealed that they migrated south from here to the Nxai Pan in Namibia and back, a round trip of more than 1,000km - longer than the famous migration between Serengeti in Tanzania and the Maasai Mara in Kenya. Fortunately the route is now protected by #KAZA, the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area, https://www.kavangozambezi.org/index.php/en/, which covers parts of Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. At 440,000 square kilometres it is the largest trans-boundary protected area in the world.
