Coronavirus-shaped robots were deployed in the city of Chennai in India on Saturday (May 23rd) to help disinfect the streets.

The robots, which can store up to 35 litres of disinfectant, are designed to reduce human involvement in the cleaning process and therefore reduce the risk of infection.

A unique coronavirus shaped robots were deployed in Chennai in containment zones where more number of Covid-19 positive cases are reported, to safeguard the sanitation workers and to sanitize the areas in a bid to reduce direct human involvement.

The Robot was developed by Mauto Electric Mobility, the manufacturers of India's first electrofit autorickshaws and the largest fleet operators to employ women drivers for auto rickshaws.

The sanitizing robots can store up to 35 liters of disinfectant. These robots were carried by a three-wheeler auto which was also based on the corona theme. The development comes as various states step up innovative ways to spread awareness about the infectious disease,

The coronavirus pandemic continues to trouble India as the number of confirmed cases is rapidly increasing. The number of COVID-19 cases in India is 1,32,000 while 3,867 people have succumbed to the disease.
