Greece emerges from coronavirus lockdown to reopen cafes and island ferries

Small crowds dined in eateries in Alexandroupoli, Greece on Monday (May 25) as the country allowed cafes, bars and restaurants to re-open with 1.5 metre social distancing measures.

A ban on travelling to Greek islands on ferries and aircraft was also lifted.

Greece has won praise for its handling of the coronavirus pandemic. It has recorded 166 coronavirus-related deaths and 2,850 confirmed cases.

The country will reopen to foreign tourists on June 15.
