Migrant workers left stranded following the nationwide lockdown in north India, gathered outside locations in New Delhi to be tested to allow them to be issued train tickets to return home.

Hundreds queued up in front of a private school in the Indian capital New Delhi to get their screening done and collect their passes and tickets in a hope to return home.

Reportedly many of those stranded in Delhi hail from the states of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, hundreds of miles from the city.

The Indian government is running special ‘Shramik Trains’ to repatriate the stranded migrant labours who have lost their jobs and are now left with no money to fund their stay in the Indian capital.

Despite standing in the soaring temperature of up to 40 degrees centigrade without food and water, only 250 people could obtain their tickets to travel back home, while hundreds were left disappointed and were returned by the police.

Video shows the migrants going back with their luggage after failing to avail the tickets.

Reportedly some have since taken to protest against the Delhi government before returning disappointed.
