Thai Army helicopters collect water to battle grass fire in Narathiwat, southern Thailand on Wednesday afternoon (May 27).

Footage shows aircraft gathering water from a nearby lake and dumping it on the 10-day-old fire that has been engulfing the area.

The fire department in the area has received equipment from the disaster prevention and mitigation centre but it was not able to handle the wildfire.

Provincial governor Ekkarat Lisen said the problem is that the fire broke out in an area that is far from water source.

He said: "We are working around the clock to find a way to deal with the fire before it spreads even further.

"The latest plan is to dig a canal from the nearest water source while the army helps in pouring down the water using helicopters."

The fire broke out in a local cooperative estate on May 18 and has already burned more than 810 acres of land.
