At least two wildlife officials suffered minor injuries during the rescue of a leopard as the predator tried to run away during the operation in southern India's Telangana state

The incident took place at a farm in Marriguda Mandal of Nalgonda district on May 28.

Visuals showed the leopard pouncing on the officers while trying to run away. Fortunately, they manage to run away.

According to Nalgonda Divisional Forest Officer Shantha Ram, the leopard was spotted by locals who informed the forest department about the animal's presence. The leopard's leg was stuck in fencing that was put around the farm.

Shantha Ram told Newslions Media Network that the leopard had entered the area on the night on May 27 and feasted on a sheep.

He identified the injured officials as Hussain, a forest beat officer and Shiva, a member of the rescue team that arrived from the Hyderabad zoo. While Shiva suffered a bite mark, Hussain was scratched by the leopard.

The incident took place after the leopard was injected with a tranquilliser gun. As the medicine did not work the first time, officials had to tranquilise the leopard again, before putting a net around it and placing it in a cage for translocation.
