Residents were concerned when a flash flood in their neighbourhood turned GREEN due to a suspected chemical leak.

The housing estate in Samut Prakan, Thailand, was submerged in water following heavy rain on Wednesday morning (May 27), with drains blocked and overflowing.

However, after the rain has stopped the colour of the water then gradually turned a disturbing shade of turquoise and emitted a putrid smell.

Resident Attawee Pornjaroenwiwat, 31, said him and his neighbours are now angry as they believe the unusual colour was caused by nearby factories pouring chemical pollutants into the drains.

He said: "We're used to the road being waterlogged after strong rain but it's usually being brown from the mud and dirt, not clear green like this.

"Moreover, many of us felt itchy after walking through this water so we believe it was caused by chemicals that have been leaked from a factory."

The furious local added that that before the flooding, they had complained to council authorities about the strong smell of chemicals.

Attawee said: "We already told the authorities a few weeks ago to deal with the smell of chemicals, so this incident has shown that they have done nothing about our complaints."
