Cyclone Nisarga: Scary moment transformer catches fire as heavy rains lash western India's Gujarat
This is the scary moment a transformer caught fire as heavy rains and winds lashed parts of western India's Gujarat.
The incident took place on June 1 in Bhavnagar district.
The state has been put under red alert due to a pending cyclone, Nisarga, which will cross sometime on June 3.
The India Meteorological Department has said Nisarha will likely turn into a severe cyclonic storm within June 3. It presently lies 710 kilometres from Surat district, as per reports.
Visuals showed sparks coming out of the transformer as people ran for their lives.
At least 17 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been sent to Gujarat to tackle the situation. According to NDRF Director General (DG) S N Pradhan, each team comprises of 45 personnel. Moreover, every unit is equipped with pole and tree cutters, communication devices, inflatable boats and basic medical unit.
