As Cyclone Nisarga left behind a trail of destruction in Alibaug on the western coast, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) came to the rescue of victims the very next day.

The cyclonic storm made landfall in Raigad district of Maharashtra along the coast overlooking Arabian Sea, at around 1 pm on June 3.

Visuals, shot on June 4, show the relief teams evacuating people from critically hit areas.

Weather forecasts had warned that Cyclone Nisarga would hit the Maharashtra and Gujarat coasts with rapid wind speeds and would cause about six feet high waves.

With winds gusting to over 90 kilometers per hour (55 miles per hour), and heavy rainfall, the storm uprooted trees and rocked electricity poles with it.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has warned people against stepping out for at least two days after the cyclone passes.
