Chester Zoo, one of the largest zoos in the UK, managed to raise over £1,000,000 after it announced it could close by autumn if the government stops it from reopening to the public.
The Chief Operating Officer at Chester Zoo has announced that the zoo could close permanently if it doesn’t open again before autumn.
The zoo has been closed for almost three months due to COVID-19.
The greater one-horned rhino calf Akeno not only loves to run around all day, he also loves his mud bath. As soon as he finds a mud puddle, that it. It has to be used. He rolls around in it, covering himself from both sites. With the puddle not being quite big enough to cover all of him, leaving a funny a dry stripe down the middle.
Also known as the greater one-horned rhinoceros and great Indian rhinoceros the baby was born at the Chester Zoo, Cheshire England at around 6pm on 3rd of May 2018. It is a male and they named him Akeno, meaning “beautiful sunrise”. Asha his 11 year old mum, had a 16 month pregnancy and only a 20-minute labour. The dad Beni is separated from these two, presumably for safety reasons.
Akeno is a big boost to the threatened species breeding programme. Did you know : a calf can drink 20-30 litres of milk per day and grows by 1-2 kg daily! They are excellent swimmers and can even dive!
Penguin goes crazy at the pink toy at the Chester Zoo in England. The little girl is waving the toy around and the Penguin keeps trying to follow it. The other Penguins are nosy as well, but one in particular can't stop following the movement.
Heart-breaking news this morning as the two baby Elephants, the the feisty but loveable Aayu and his big half sister Nandita from the Chester Zoo have died from the deadly endotheliotropic herpesvirus ( Elephant disease) .
The disease is carried by both captive and wild elephants is mostly fatal, but Chester zoo still tried everything they could to save them, including blood transfusion. I hope the other calves in the herd are going to be OK. In memory of Aayu and Nandita this video. My thoughts are with the keepers that did everything they could.
RIP little Aayu and Nandita!
The elephant calves from the Chester Zoo are having some fun playing. Aayu Hi Way the older male baby in the herd decided to show off his strength by pushing his sister Indali of the slope. Later she gets her revenge, when big sister Nandita lends a helping trunk. Indali is giving her some extra strength by pushing the big sister, so she can push Aayu. Nandita decides than she had enough, but Indali gives her big sister a comon lets finish this nudge. While Nandita and Aayu pushing each other, Indali comes from the back and just decides to push both of them instead.
When Akeno the Greater One horned Rhino calf is on top of the thick tree branch, you would think he is just scratching his belly moving forwards and backwards. When it took a bit longer, I was wondering if he was actually stuck. Apparently I wasn't alone with the thought as mum suddenly came running and had to check for herself if her baby was stuck or not. She was just going to give him a push, but Akeno managed to get of the branch by himself, but that's good mums for you, they're always there to help, when you need them in the animal kingdom.
