A rare species of turtle that was caught by fishermen in southeast India was released back into the wild by forest officials.

The reptile, an Indian softshell turtle, was found at the Jambhira Dam in Deuli, Mayurbhanj district, Odisha on June 1 by a group of fishermen.

The forest department measured the turtle as weighing more than 30 kg, and released it back into the water with the help of local people.

The Trionychidae are a taxonomic family of a number of turtle genera, commonly known as Softshell turtles. Softshells include some of the world's largest freshwater turtles, though many can adapt to living in highly brackish areas. This turtle maximum life is 50 years. Softshell turtle can be aggressive sometimes due to unusual condition. Members of this family occur in Africa, Asia, and North America.

Today one softshell turtle was rescued by forest department with the help of local people. The turtle was caught in a net when fishermen was fishing in ZAMBHIRA DAM at DEULI rage of Mayurbhanj district. After that we released it in the same Dam said Swayam Mallick Dfo Baripada.
