The presence of a wild elephant in a neighbourhood in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu triggered panic among locals.

The incident happened in the village of Nellimalai, Coimbatore district on Saturday (June 13).

Footage shows the wild tusker elephant roaming the streets, presumably looking for food. Forest officials are then seen, trying to chase the elephant away using fireworks.

According to local reports, the residents of the locality have been living in fear ever since the elephant intrusion.

Residents have requested forest officials to take necessary action to prevent any future incident resulting from a man-animal conflict.
