Filipino officials buy 80 rescue boats in preparation for rainy season typhoon
Government offocials in Manila, the Philippines, have bought 80 new rescue boats as they brace for typhoons during the approaching rainy season.
The boats, made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) material, can carry up to 10 people with its 30 hp (horsepower) outboard engine.
In the video, Mayor Francisco Domagoso handed over 30 of the boats to the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office on June 15.
Disaster Risk Reduction Director Arnel Angeles said that the boats will be used for search and rescue operations during a storm.
He said: “This will tremendously reduce response times in Rapid Water Rescue Operations."
The boats can also be used for clean-up operations in the city's creeks and river system.
