Balenggek chicken or balenggek crowing are local chickens in West Sumatra, originating from Payung Sakaki and Tigo Lurah Districts.

The Minang community in West Sumatra used to call this chicken which has multilevel crowing with a "belenggek chicken" which means multilevel rhythm.

This is because balenggek rooster crowing has multilevel rhythms from 3 to 12.

This chicken is a descendant of a cross of red jungle fowl with local native chickens, so the sound and crowing level is very unique and only exists in the area
