Newlywed couple saved from car fallen into Indian river

A car carrying a newlywed couple along with three other people fell into a river in central India today (June 21).

The wedding party was returning to the groom's village when the car they were travelling through Jharkhand's Palamu district and fell off a bridge, and getting swept away by the strong current of the Malay river.

When the locals spotted the floating car, some of them jumped into the river to save the occupants of the vehicle from drowning.

Dramatic visuals of the rescue operation showed a group of people trying to use ropes to halt the stricken vehicle.

The car was washed around half a kilometre downriver before nearby villagers could smash open its windows to take the occupants out safely.
