Hangberg residents were stopped during an attempted march to the Hout Bay police station. The residents were stopped halfway between Hangberg and the police station by the public order policing unit as well as Cape Town Metro Police.

The Hangberg residents wanted to march to the police station to hand over a memorandum of demands to the the local councillor, Rob Quinoas. After a protracted standoff with police the residents agreed to hand the memorandum of demands to police when Rob Quinoas refused to meet them.

During recent weeks there have been regular demolitions of shacks in Hangberg that have resulted in many violent protests and retaliations by residents.
