With a surge in COVID-19 cases since the lockdown terminated, law enforcement officials in Bengaluru, southern India, have started shutting down shops that do not follow social distancing guidelines.

Footage filmed on June 28 shows police officers sealing shops on Neeladri Road. Several shops have been shut, including McDonald’s franchises and convenience stores.

This step was taken after the city was praised for its minimal spread of infection during the two-month-long lockdown but has struggled to contain the virus since the country has partially reopened.

With a surge in positive cases of COVID-19 since the lockdown terminated, law enforcement officials have taken up the responsibility of ensuring social distance within the general public, sealing stores for not following the norms in the capital region of southern India’s Karnataka in Bengaluru.

The safeguarding campaign was run in Electronic City’s Neeladri street on June 28.

This stern but essential step was taken after the city was praised for its minimal spread of infection amid the two-month-long lockdown but ceased to contain the risk after the country partially opened up for normal functioning.

Several shops have been shut down, including McDonald’s and Reliance stores in the area, following the failure to comply with social distancing norms.

In visuals, the cops can be seen preaching about how a face mask must be worn at all times, and a physical distance should be maintained, to curb infection spread within the city.
