Hong Kong police on Wednesday (July 1) arrested hundreds of protesters for breaching the new security law.

Footage filmed on July 1 shows riot police firing pepper pellets inside Times Square mall, protesters setting barricades using bricks, and protesters shouting insults at police getting arrested near Hong Kong Central Library.

On the evening of July 1 - The 23rd Anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China, protesters defiantly took to the streets to voice their discontent against the new national security laws in which they fear excessive persecution and major human rights crackdowns

Large groups of demonstrators gathered around Times Square, one of the biggest and most luxurious shopping malls in the city to voice their discontent with current government rule.

In response, Special Tactical Anti-Terrorist police officers were deployed to seal-off the shopping mall, prompting protesters to chant anti-police/anti-government slogans, hurling water bottles at police - In response, officers retaliated by firing rounds of advanced crowd control weapons including pepperball rifles, conducting stop-and-search operations and cordoning off areas.

On the 23rd Anniversary of Hong Kong's handover back to China, and the first day of the the new National Secutity Law being enacted in Hong Kong - Protesters took to the streets around Causeway Bay, a major shopping district in the heart of Hong Kong island to express their dissatisfaction with the current state-of-affairs.

Protesters are seen creating makeshift blockades and barricades out of sidewalk pavement bricks in hopes of creating a roadblock while police are seen retaliating by charging towards anti-government demonstrators, using various levels of force to disperse the crowd and making arrests.

On the first day of China's new Anti-Treason National Security laws are enacted, thousands of protesters take to the streets to defiantly express their dissatisfaction and grieviances with the new developments as the government commemorates it's 23rd anniversary under Chinese rule.
