Officials in Indonesia check out soccer ground that will host 2021 FIFA U-20 World Cup games

The Sriwijaya Stadium in the city of Palembang, South Sumatra has been inspected by Indonesian officials before the U-20 World Cup which is scheduled to take place in May 2021.

The 23,000 capacity stadium was previously not seen as a serious ground to host the event, despite hosting the AFF Cup and Asian Games 2018.

Local government in South Sumatra invited the chairman of Indonesia's football association, Mochamad Iriawan, to see the facility.

Local governor, Herman Deru, is heard saying in the video: "We are always tidying up in addition to maintaining we will improve all the completeness of the completeness of the funds from the state there is also from the South Sumatra region and the city of Palembang, state and regional companies and also private partners."

A budget of 11 billion rupiahs is said to have been allocated to improve the stadium as well as building five other athletic stadiums.
