A monitor lizard was rescued after getting stuck between railings before being carried away strapped to a motorcycle.

The 5ft long reptile was too chubby to squeeze through iron bars in Ang Thong, central Thailand.

Animal handlers arrived and gently eased the lizard out of the jam. They then carried it onto a motorcycle and strapped it to the seat before taking it to the nearest canal.

Rescue worker Sakhon Saengthong, 37, said it was easier to transport the monitor lizard on the motorcycle than to carry it.

He said: "The nearest place that we could release it was quite far and the reptile was heavy so we decided to put it on the motorcycle and push it to the destination."
