A restaurant has stepped up its COVID-19-awareness-game to a new level after providing its customers with Indian flatbreads called parottas shaped as face masks in southern India’s Tamil Nadu.

The concept of this innovation was brought into the Madurai city market on July 7 and was an instant success.

The visuals shot on July 9 in Temple City restaurant in Madurai.

Reports suggest the parotta was introduced by Temple city hotel in Madurai about 1.2 km away from Maattuthavani bus terminus and is priced at Rs 50 each (less than a US dollar).

Temple City, one of the largest restaurant chains in Madurai, aimed to make the general parotta-loving population aware of social distancing norms which would help reduce cases of infection spread.

According to reports, Madurai stands second to Chennai, the capital, concerning the number of active coronavirus cases in the state.

When the lockdown was relaxed, the restaurant had to haggle over customers for not wearing face-masks and not maintaining social distancing.

The restaurant chain also made a mark with its Corona Bonda, a south Indian stuffed dish shaped like the virus, and Corona Rava Dosa, a dish resembling a two-dimensional coronavirus, earlier in the year.
