Man marries two women, girlfriend, woman chosen by his family at same wedding ceremony in central India
In an unusual incident, a person married two women, his girlfriend and a bride chosen by his parents, at the same wedding ceremony in central India's Madhya Pradesh.
The marriage took place at Keria village in Ghoradongri tehsil of Betul district on June 29.
According to reports, Sandeep Uike, a tribal youth from Salaiya village, married Sunanda, a young girl from Hoshangabad district, and Sasikala, another girl from Koyalari village of Ghodadongri tehsil.
Uike reportedly started fell in love with the women from Hoshangabad while he was studying in Bhopal.
However, his parents did not approve of the relationship.
Uike's family found a girl of their choice for his marriage.
This led to the dispute, and the three families decided to approach the Panchayat (village council) to resolve it.
The Panchayat decided that if both the women were ready to live together with Uike, both of them should be married to him.
Both of the women agreed to this.
Uike consecrated the marriage by taking 'saath pheras' (Seven rounds) around the sacred fire with both the brides, as per Hindu marriage customs.
People from the village were among those who attended the ceremony along with the families of the two brides and the groom.
All three families have consensually agreed to this bizarre wedding.
However, Ghodadongri Tehsildar Monika Vishwakarma said that permission for this marriage was neither sought nor any given.
She added that an official will be sent to investigate the matter.
