Uber driver warns of dangers while driving during the COVID-19 pandemic as passenger removes mask to sing Frank Sinatra song

This was the moment an Uber passenger removed their protective face mask before performing the Frank Sinatra song "Summer Wind" in New York.

In-car footage shows the passengers, one with a mask only covering their nose and another who removes the mask fully, before performing the classic song.

European scientists suggested that singing could be linked to the spread of coronavirus after 103 out of 130 members of a choir fell in will the disease earlier this year in the Netherlands.

The driver posted the footage online to highlight the dangers rideshare drivers face during the coronavirus pandemic when riders disregard measures to stop the potential spread of the disease.

The driver, who runs the YouTube page "Uber in a Tesla" told Newsflare: "Since the COVID-19 virus started, I stopped driving for Uber for a few months, until recently,

"I decided to take my health in my hands and resume driving.

"I always wear a face mask when driving passengers, and insist that my riders wear face masks before entering my car.

"I thank my riders for wearing their masks and ask them to cover their noses as well, and that I hope you understand that nobody wants to get sick.

"Everyone always is understanding of my request, but several riders seem to just remove the masks once they get into my car.

"I am unable to monitor their faces once they are in the car because it's dark out and they may be at an angle that I can't see them in my mirror or I'm concentrating on driving.

"Many times I engage people in fun conversations and even singing.

"It's only upon me reviewing the video footage that I realize that many riders simply disregard my instructions and remove their face masks without even thinking about the risks that they are putting me in, this is very dangerous.

"After reviewing the footage, I report each rider to Uber so that they can put the riders on notice that their account will be deactivated if this gets reported to them again.

"I looked into putting up a shield to separate me from the riders but I determined that it is not functional since the front seats are not bench seats each front seat is set to a different setting thereby creating a gap and nullifying the purpose of the shield.

"So my choices at this point is to either stop driving, or create a different enforcement technique, or create more rider awareness of this problem."

The driver informed Newsflare that the passengers knew they were being recorded and the video would be published.
