This is heartbreaking moment a group of a bus drivers were seen begging in the street after losing their jobs during the coronavirus pandemic.

The jeepney owners who worked in Manila, the Philippines, pleaded with passing motorists for help with their daily meals on July 3.

Driver Freddie Ascrate said that they need to do it just to survive their day and they don't have any choice because they also have families that they need to feed.

He said: ''It’s embarrassing to ask help from anyone but we endure it so we can have something to eat.''

Jeepneys are a popular form of transport in the Philippines but they were banned at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

On June 22, the government allowed the return of public buses but the old, traditional style remain outlawed in some districts amid fears that social distancing cannot be maintained onboard.

The self-employed drivers that rely on a hand-to-mouth existence have been unable to earn an income due to the restrictions.
