A shocked tourist found a snake slithering around the bathroom of his hostel.

Pierce Caine from California stayed at a small hostel in Seminyak, Bali for a vacation. He said he was surprised and did not know what to do at first because he was unsure whether the snake was poisonous.

The backpacker was taking a bath when the serpent crawled on the bathroom wall before disappearing through a gap.

Pierce, who is documenting his travels on his Instagram blog @travel_bag_life, said: "I quit my job in January to travel the world for a few years to share my experience and seeing a snake inside my bathroom it was quite interesting since this is my first to see a snake up close.

The snake was identified as Dendrelaphis tristis, a long, slender snake with a pointed head and a bronze coloured line running right down its back. Its diet includes geckos, birds and occasionally frogs. This harmless snake prefers the treetops than life on the ground.
