Beautiful scarab beetle munches ‘powder puff’ Sweet Thorn flower

This Sweet Thorn shrub, formerly known as Acacia karroo, (now Vachellia karroo) was covered with abundant, ‘powder puff’ yellow flowers in January in Pilanesberg National Park, South Africa. Beautiful scarab beetles, known commonly as Girdled Fruit Chafers or Girdled Flower Chafers (Dischista cincta) , were munching the fluffy yellow anthers. It is unusual to get such a detailed view of an insect feeding.
