Longer Version_Rhino rests on roadside after wandering away from the forest during flood in India
Forest department officials are trying to guide a stray rhino back to its habitat after it ventured out following heavy rainfall that lashed northeastern India's Assam.
The visual came out of Bandar Dhubi area at Bagori Range in Kaziranga National Park on July 17.
According to reports, torrential rainfall that led to floods in several parts of the state forced the rhino to stray out of the forest.
The visual shows the rhino resting on National Highway 37 while officials guide the traffic away from it.
The following day on July 18, the animal was spotted taking a dip in a nearby pond while gleefully chewing on the vegetation.
On July 19, the rhino was spotted again in an area adjoining the National Park, suggesting that it is slowly moving towards the Park.
According to the updates received on July 20, the animal was spotted again strolling in the nearby area.
Reports suggest the operation to drive the animal back to the forest is ongoing.
Several embankments have been breached, and roads and bridges have been broken on account of rising floodwaters, based on sources.
A total of 11 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams reached the flooded sites and evacuated 487 marooned villagers and transported them to safer places.
Besides, teams are also assisting district administration in the distribution of masks, screening inundated areas and maintained proper social distancing due to the COVID-19 emergency.
