In a lucky occurrence, a labourer working in a minefield found a diamond worth over INR 5,000,000 ($67,000 USD) in central India’s Madhya Pradesh.

The 10.69-carat diamond was discovered on July 21 in Panna’s Sarkoha village.

According to reports, a total of nine workers were digging the mine together, when one of them found the jewel.

Visuals show the lustrous gem being examined by the experts.

The fortunate labourer later deposited the diamond to the Diamond Officer in the district.

District Diamond Officer stated that a gem this large has not been discovered for quite a long period of time and will be duly put up for auction.

Whatever amount is received from the said auction, will be handed over to the labourer after deducting tax and loyalty.

Panna’s name literally translates to emerald and has a rich history of expensive gems being found, with the most valuable one measuring 44.55 carats, in 1961.
