Horse riders of the city of La Plata, in the Province of Buenos Aires, protest this Thursday to request the return of the races at the Racetrack of that city.

The protest summoned jockeys, caretakers, maintenance personnel of the racetrack, among others, who, with posters and flags, moved through the center of the city demanding the return of the activity during the pressing situation that the sector is going through amid the quarantine for Covid-19.

"Races are work", "not at the closing of the racetracks", "we need to work", "they are letting us die" were some of the slogans expressed by the employees of the racetrack in La Plata, which has been paralyzed since March.

The demonstration began at mid-morning with a march to the headquarters of the Provincial Institute of Lotteries and Casinos (IPLyC) and then moved to the door of the Buenos Aires Government, heavily guarded by police.

Amid a climate of tension, the protesters were received by the Chief of Cabinet of the Province, Carlos Bianco.

With the beginning of the quarantine, the racetracks across the country had to close their doors, which is estimated to have impacted the economy of some 700,000 people across the country who depend on the equestrian activity.

SOUNDBITE: JUAN MANUEL, Hippodrome worker

"This march is because Lottery and Casinos do not want to open the Hippodrome, is a benefit for all people, we work, we live, we eat with this, if they do not open it we cannot continue working, we need it, we live from this, it's our life. They distribute food to us, but it does not reach us, the horses have to run".
