Peaceful protests held in the Israeli capital of Jerusalem turned to riots when police dispersed the crowds with tear gas and water cannons on July 21.

Thousands of Israelis turned out against quarantine restrictions and a new government law that would allow emergency regulations to be enacted without Parliamentary approval.

In Jerusalem, peaceful protests ended in riots, clashes with law enforcement and the dispersal of the crowd with tear gas and water cannons. More than 30 people have been arrested.
Initially, thousands of Israelis protested peacefully against quarantine restrictions and the so-called consent law. It allows the Government to enact emergency regulations without the approval of Parliament and even without publishing its decision. This is not the first time in July that mass protests have escalated into clashes with the police. Many central streets of Jerusalem were closed in advance that night.
