I stumbled onto a 12-million-year-old fossil crab
I was out hunting for some fossils and had started back home as it was getting dark and stumbled on this fossil crab that had been eroded out of a rock. The rock that formed around it is a concretion, a kind of natural cement, that formed when the clay turned to stone around the crab. I found it just in time as the waves would have destroyed it very soon as there are very strong tidal surges in the area.
