Defence force chopper airdrops relief material in flood-hit northern India
With floods inundating several areas of northern India’s Bihar, the Indian Air Force deployed three of its helicopters to airdrop relief materials in the worst-hit districts.
The operation was carried out on July 25 in parts of Darbhanga, East Champaran, and Gopalganj.
According to local reports, more than a million lives have been affected by heavy floods in the state. Seven people have died, and many others are stranded.
Footage from one of the chopper shows essential items being dropped in packets, as people stranded in floods run to gather what they can.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar directed officials to provide all facilities according to the COVID-19 guidelines to all those rescued from floods in the state, along with INR 6,000 (USD 80) each as part of the relief.
