Indian doctors have managed to recover a 20-cm kitchen knife from inside the liver of a 28-year-old man who had swallowed it almost one and a half months ago.

The man recently continued to feel abdominal pain and loss of appetite, it was then his family members rushed him to the hospital.

He was first taken to the Safdarjung hospital but was later referred to AIIMS Delhi which is just adjacent to Safdarjung in South Delhi.

The man was a resident of Haryana in northern India and continued to live a normal life after having ingested the sharp object for over a month until recently when his health condition started deteriorating.

The doctors at the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) suggested an X-Ray. later, the reports left the doctors baffled who then decided to operate out the long sharp object from inside the liver.

The doctors had to carry out the complex operation for 3 hours long until they recovered the knife from inside the body of the patient.

Dr Nihar Ranjan Das from the department of Gastroenterology said: "The patient's family came to us with a complaint of abdominal pain and we suggested an x-ray, the reports later baffled us when we found out the knife inside his stomach."

"The knife was dangerously pointed near the bile duct and the main blood circulating artery and it was to be removed safely else it could have damaged the vessels leading the patient to bleed to death."

"We had then decided to cut through the intestinal wall to remove the knife safely from the liver."

The medics first carefully removed the puss from inside the lungs to stop the spread of infection and then counselled the patient for the operation which was successfully performed on July 19th.

The patient is recovering at the moment and under the observation of the doctors, he is waiting to be discharged which will be done after doctors deem him fit.

As per the reports, the man craved for Marijuana and when he couldn't find it he swallowed the knife and didn't inform his family members about this.
