A CCTV camera has captured the moment a man had a narrow escape after a sewerage manhole cover exploded in front of him and flew up 5-ft in the air at the A-2 block of Uttam Nagar area in New Delhi, the Indian capital.

The video from 20th July 2020 around 11:30 AM shows the manhole cover exploding all of a sudden when a man was nearly approaching towards it while walking normally on the road.

The explosion was said to have been caused due to the sound of a spark boom in the High Tension wire cable laid underneath the Sewer.

Several houses were also rocked due to the vibration of the explosion.

The Resident Welfare Association President Mahender Sabharwal said: "We heard a big explosion and came to check and saw that the lid was off on the road. The explosion had rocked our homes with vibration felt"

"The Delhi Jal Board people were working when the incident happened, and now when the Electricity workers came to repair, we learnt about a high tension wire laid underneath the sewer which may have caused the explosion."

"The residents are now even scared to walk on the road."

"Nobody is injured till now and one man nearly escaped death due to the incident."

The Delhi Jal Board and BSES Electricity board are now working together to rectify the situation which will go on for almost a week.

Nobody was hurt in the incident and fortunately, the man was lucky enough to escape a serious injury as he ran to take a cover in the nearby building as seen in the visuals.
