A full-grown male sambar deer was rescued from a deep well by forest officials in northern India’s Uttarakhand after it unwittingly fell.

The incident took place on July 27 in the Rajaji National Park, Dehradun.

Claustrophobic footage shows the deer stranded inside the narrow walls of a 12-foot-deep well, helpless, unable to escape.

Forest workers were forced to use an excavator to demolish one of the walls, confining the animal and pave the way for its escape.

Further footage from later in the scene, shows the animal fleeing after being released.

On being slightly irked by the forest team, the animal attempts to hop on the elevated rocky path, set up for its release.

One of the visuals, later from the scene, shows the animal finally running away to freedom after being rescued.
