Good Samaritans have rescued Asiatic water snake from a fishing net in northeastern India's Tripura.

The visual came out of Dharmanagar on July 31.

The video shows two people rescuing the snake entangled in the fishing net.

They use a sharp blade to cut open the net in order to release the reptile.

Following this, they haul out the snake from the net and release it into the nearby pond.

The snake is a common species of nonvenomous snake in the subfamily Natricinae of the family Colubridae.

Also known as the Checkered Keelback snake, they can survive in crowded cities and underwater conditions that kill off most other native wildlife.

They are protected under Schedule II of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

Though non-venomous, keelbacks turn aggressive when threatened, and may bite in retaliation or self-defence.
